Roald Dahl: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1964)

Dt. Title: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

My Rating:

Author (Source: Wiki )
Roald Dahl (13 September 1916-23 November 1990) was a British novelist, short story writer and screenwriter, born in Wales of Norwegian parents, who rose to prominence in the 1940s with works for both children and adults, and became one of the world's bestselling authors.
His most popular books include The Twits, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, The Witches and The BFG.

(...) For a brief, relatively unsuccessful period in the 1960s, Dahl wrote screenplays. Two of his screenplays – the James Bond film You Only Live Twice and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang – were adaptations of novels by Ian Fleming. Dahl also wrote an initial draft adapting his own novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , which was heavily rewritten by David Seltzer, and produced as the film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971). Dahl later disowned the film.

(...) Many of his children's books are illustrated by Quentin Blake.

opinion
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is probably the most out of the ( new) film adaptation of the book (2005), known to Johnny Depp in the role of Willy Wonka. Although the film is based closely on the literary work, the book was very predictable but not boring. Roald Dahl's story sparkles with creativity and charm, the characters are carefully designed so that one really with the poor family of the little sympathy for Charlie, and mitfiebert later in search of the golden ticket with Charlie. The bizarre Willy Wonka and his chocolate creations, the factory and the mysterious Oompa-Loompas, the wonderfully exaggerated children's Veruca Salt, Augustus Gloop, Violet Beauregarde and Mike Teavee and their "experiences" in the factory, to the simple but very apt illustrations - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a wonderfully weird and funny book that is not recommended for children only.
