Inhalt (Klappentext, Abacus)
What was the deadly secret that haunted the writings of Lord Byron, the most brilliant and notorious of romantic poets? Tom Holland, in this dazzlingly crafted blend of fact and fiction, offers a truly terrifying answer. Impeccably researched, vividly imagined, The Vampyre is a gothic fiction at its most atmospheric, allusive and thought-provoking. As Byron himself pointed out: truth is stranger than fiction.
opinion
Finally, once again an exciting vampire novel, with no dripping and kitsch manages. Unfortunately, I am familiar with Byron from not at all in so I can not say whether the vampire story really fits in his life, or whether it is told so well that it theoretically could really have been.
Without at least a minimum of background knowledge to Byron to have is a well-defined lost a part of the appeal of this book, the historical portion of the book becomes secondary to the fiction predominates. The vampire story itself is told very exciting and compelling, with interesting characters, beautiful language, and many details. Between each chapter excerpts from texts of Byron are inserted, the fit of Holland's concept.
The end is me personally a bit too abruptly, but otherwise, the novel is very consistent and all lovers of vampire literature (and Byron?) Is recommended without reservation.
