content (blurb, Heyne)
It is the 2033. After a devastating war, large parts of the world lie in ruins. Moscow is a ghost town. The survivors have retreated into the depths of the Metro network, where it built a new civilization. A civilization, such as has never been seen before.

These are the adventures of the young Artyom, who breaks from his home station in order to preserve the underground in a dark threat. For the last men are not alone down there ...

opinion
Wow. After a few pages I was completely captivated by the story. Although I have at the beginning of the Russian names of metro stations and their relation to each other very confused, but then I luckily found the Metro Plan in the book.

the book is particularly exciting because representing the Moscow subway system and its inhabitants are a microcosm in which part of certain social structures and phenomena in the world "before" (ie before they flee to metro had to repeat). Sun
build people their homes in the stations, they love, argue, engage in trade, fighting each other. There are fascists, terrorists, freedom fighters, sectarian, cannibals, wars, alliances, trade agreements. Some try their children who have never seen the light of day, to offer a life that so close to "before" will be established, as possible. Others sell their children into prostitution to provide for themselves the best possible life.
caused the other hand, the new living situation, new developments. New gods are invented to give hope .. The men who risked their lives to go to the surface of books, Technology and other procure to be celebrated as heroes. For on the surface, the radiation has caused terrible with flora and fauna, and these excesses threaten to break into the Metro.

Despite plenty of excitement and some fantastic elements I have read the novel as a primarily social criticism. First, the human race destroys itself with its penchant for art and greases as some people can make it just continue where they left off. There are fewer dangers from without, as the internal dangers, from which the inhabitants are under threat.

I recommend to everyone, with the main character Artyom to explore the Moscow metro system, and marvel at 764 pages long with him to fear, to take the courage to acquire new knowledge to make acquaintances and at the end of the book to make a great discovery.
